Beta release of version 3.3 (updated)

I've released this version to address a problem that can cause the Ten Foot Products to display windows that are too large for the screen, making them unusable.

I subsequently re-released it to address a problem encountered when running the Launcher in environments where the operating system language is not English.

This release also includes the following enhancements to the BitTorrent client:

A substantial performance improvement. You should see significantly faster download speeds from large swarms.
More information about the share ratio target on the Torrent page when downloading
No longer 'forgets' changes to logging and 'stay awake while...' settings.

Since this is a beta version, please note:

The help text has not yet been updated
You will see a spurious message about a new version when running the browser.

You can get the beta release from http://www.SeeITA.com/TF/Version33Beta2.msi

Simply run this file to install the update. You existing settings and tailoring will be preserved.

Version 3.2 enhances the BitTorrent client.

Notably the client:

No longer ignores changes to the number of concurrent uploads per torrent
Provides more information on the 'Finished' screen
Improves consistency of reporting low download and upload rates

Version 3.1 fixes some issues in the version 3 release relating to the Browser and the BitTorrent client.

This version also adds a link to your home page (if you have set one) from the Browser's splash screen.

I have added a BitTorrent client to Version 3 of the Ten Foot products.

Bit Torrent is a widely-used protocol for downloading large files (and collections of files) from the Internet. For example, you can get films, TV programs and music that are published as BitTorrents.

The client allows people interested in the same file to work together to get much faster download rates than a single server could reasonably provide. It integrates with the Ten Foot Browser (and other browsers) so clicking a link to a torrent starts the download automatically. You control how and when torrents are queued and run.

Like the other Ten Foot Products:

- Ten Foot Browser
- Ten Foot Launcher
- Ten Foot Mail Reader
- Ten Foot File Manager
- Ten Foot Program Manager...

... the BitTorrent client makes the best use of low resolution television displays by using simple screens with high resolution colours. The screens automatically resize to fit your display. You can control the client using just your remote.

It comes with online help, supporting documentation and support pages to help you make the most of BitTorrent.

We have made several other improvements in this new version that you can read about here.

I have added an Email Reader to Version 2 of the Ten Foot products.

The Ten Foot Mail reader lets you monitor your Emails using just your remote. You can monitor as many Email accounts as you want. You can delete any Emails you don't want. All other Emails continue to be delivered to your normal Email program. You can protect sensitive Email accounts with a password. In any case, all passwords are stored internally using strong encryption.

Like the other Ten Foot Products:

- Ten Foot File Manager
- Ten Foot Program Manager...

The Launcher allows the Ten Foot Products to work with all PC-based media centre software by defining hot buttons. Double-pressing a hot button brings up the Launcher so you can run any of the Products, or any other program you add to the Launcher.

I'm pleased to announce version 1.0 of the CITA Ten Foot Products is available for download from www.SeeITA.com/TF/Downloads.shtml.

The products come with a user manual and a guide to tailoring and regionalising the products. You can also see more information at www.SeeITA.com/TF.

I hope you find them useful.

Please be assured the products do not contain anything nasty. They are available as full products for free. There is no 'professional' version. No malware of any kind. The products have no tracking capabilities. There are no adverts.

The Ten Foot products come with four modules to start with:

Launcher - allows you to launch any of the Ten Foot products (and any other programs you want to run) with just your remote. This is not an MCE add-in. The products will work with any Media Centre - or none at all.
Browser - displays web pages full screen with the ability to zoom in for detail. Designed to be operated with a standard remote. Includes many features designed to minimise data entry. You even get a cursor you can work with your remote.
File manager - allows you to work with files and folders using just your remote. Great for organising your videos and giving your files meaningful names.
Program manager - gives you options for minimising, restoring, maximising and closing windows from your armchair.

All the modules use clear, high-contrast text that automatically resizes to the size and resolution of your TV.

I don't have a copy of Vista yet (it's on the way) so I've tested them only with XP. If you try it with VMC, let me know what happens - they work with XP limited users, so I'm hopeful.

If you have suggestions for additional modules or for improving the existing ones, please post and let me know.

If you find the products useful, then a donation will encourage me to continue developing and improving the products. In particular, I'd like to have a go at upgrading them to use WPF graphics - the same user interface tools used by Vista Media Center.
